Message from the President – May 2018

Dear friends,

I welcome you to our monthly communication. I would like to express my great joy and pride in our schools. Two important events that have happened recently confirmed the hard work of our teachers so that our school can provide high quality education similar to or better than the other educational institutions in Quebec.

Firstly, the Commission consultative de l’enseignement privé which examines the applications of the provincial private schools and suggests to the Minister of Education the type and duration of each permit given to the educational institutions, examined our school and found everything satisfactory. As a result, the license for École Socrates-Démosthène was renewed for three years, a fact that is seldomly achieved according to the Ministry’s policies.

The superiority of our school was noted by the Ambassador of Greece to Canada, Dimitrios Azemopoulos, who visited Campus III, on the occasion of the May Day celebration organized by the Parents Committee. After a few discussions with the Principal Chris Filandrianos, the children and parents and after visiting all school premises, he praised the work of the Administration and the teachers for their remarkable work. The Ambassador in his own words: “I come from a family of teachers. My mother was a school principal. I grew up in the classrooms and I am able to understand firsthand the high quality of education and the difficulties you are facing. ”

The wellness of our children is always in our hearts; wherever they are. The restless Vrissiis Mavrou-Paidousis and the MAGIC Mission Committee organised the annual “Makaronada” luncheon in support of more than 50 institutions whose main aim is to help children in need in Greece. I would like to thank and congratulate all the volunteers of this initiative, as well as all those who supported it financially.

In closing, I would like to invite you to two upcoming events, focusing on our own children. This Sunday, May 20, the “Taste and Tradition” is organized by the HCGM’s Fundraising Committee in cooperation with the Greek associations of our community. Next week, on the 27th, the «Λαχειοφόρος» (Lottery) takes place. Both events aim to provide financial support to our school. So we all have to be there.

Yours sincerely,

Nicholas T. Pagonis
HCGM President
