TeleMarathon 2017
We are excited to announce that this year’s annual TeleMarathon will air on Odyssey TV, on Sunday, December 3, at 3:00pm. There will be a simultaneous webcast on HCGM’s official Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/TheHCGM/ ) and on our YouTube channel. (https://www.youtube.com/user/TheHCGM).
TeleMarathon is an annual 3-hour television variety show whose purpose is to raise funds in financial support of our schools, organised by the HCGM’s Fundraising Committee. Executive Producer of the show is TV and media specialist Paris Petrou who co-hosts with well-known TV personality, John Coconas.
The Honourable Senator Leo Housakos is this year’s Honourary Chair of fundraising event. In his brief message, the Senator points out:
“As a Greek-Canadian Senator, nothing makes me more proud than the one day every year when I get to host the children from Socrates-Demosthenes at the Senate of Canada.
As I interact with the students, whether answering their questions in the Senate Chamber or helping them with a scavenger hunt in the Senate foyer, I well up with pride at what a wonderful job Socrates-Demosthenes is doing in educating our children.
That’s why I am so honoured to have been named Honourary Chair for this year’s Telemarathonios fundraiser, in support of Socrates-Demosthenes schools.
These schools educate our children in three languages, including Greek, and are crucial in the preservation of Hellenism across this great country of ours.
However, none of it would be possible without your continued support and generosity.
After 17 successful years a radiothon, we hope you’ll join us again this year for our second Canada-wide telethon, December 3, 2017 and once again show your support for Socrates-Demosthenes.”
Interviews with students and distinguished members of the Greek community, a three-part documentary about our school history, local acts, dance groups, and famous singers from Greece will contribute to the success of the show.
Last year’s first-ever TeleMarathon raised $110,000. This year, with your generous donations we have higher expectations and hope to surpass our goals.
