Message from the President – April 2018
These last few weeks we have lived a great pride beginning with the celebrations to commemorate the heroes of our Independence Day, as well as Holy Week, that came to remind us of Jesus Christ’s love for the humanity through the Divine Drama and the Resurrection. The greatest celebration of Orthodoxy is the triumphant victory of good on evil and is offered as a way for redemption, joy and happiness to each one of us.
As every year, the Divine Drama was revived in all our Churches. Parishioners from all the neighborhoods of Greater Montreal filled our churches with their unwavering faith and loyalty by praying, singing and glorifying the greatness of Jesus Christ’s sacrifice for humanity.
A few days prior, a blue wave of pride flooded Jean Talon Street and our hearts. The entire community, led by the students of our schools, honoured the spirit and the bravery of the heroes of our motherland’s Revolution for Independence of 1821, which is inextricably linked to the religious message of our Lady’s Annunciation.
Once again, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau honored the parade of our national Independence Day, demonstrating respect for the values of freedom and the heroism of those who fought for it. The same sense of honor was felt by the Parade’s Grand Marshall, Quebec’s Finance Minister Carlos Leitão, when he opened the parade, in front of thousands of people holding fluttering blue-and-white flags.
Taking this opportunity, I would like to congratulate and thank all our volunteers who helped organise the parade, and helped out with the Easter Sequences in our churches. I would also like to thank all the Hellenes of Montreal, who gave their vigorous presence to all the religious and national events of the last few weeks.
In closing, I would like to wish you from the bottom of my heart the Holy Light of Resurrection to bring blessing in every step on our life’s journeys, and the «λεβεντιά» of the heroes of our national independence to fill our hearts with pride.
A sincere thank you to all,
Nicholas T. Pagonis
