Laval Summer Festival 2017

Three days of joy and Greek culture unfolded at Laval’s annual Festival, which was held from the 30th of June to the 2nd of July at Holy Cross church. Despite the weather conditions, participation was great, especially on the weekend.

Members of the Laval Regional Council, along with dozens of volunteers who offered their services selflessly, perfectly organised the Festival.

The second day of the Festival coincided with the Canada Day celebration, and Greek Montrealers had the opportunity to celebrate both homelands.

The Laval Regional Council was pleased to welcome many prominent figures from different government levels. Fayçal El-Khoury, MP for Laval—Les Îles, Emmanuela Lambropoulos, MP for Ville-St-Laurent, Monique Sauvé, MNA for Fabre, along with Marc Demers, Mayor of Laval, Vasillios Karidogiannis, Municipal Councilor for L’Àbord-à-plouffe, Aglaia Revelakis, Municipal Councilor for Chomedey, Aline Dib, Municipal Councilor for St-Martin, Mary Deros, Vice-Mayor of Montreal and Municipal Councilor for Parc-Extension, David de Cotis, Municipal Councilor for Saint-Bruno, Remi Alwan, Political Attaché to Guy Ouellette, MNA for Chomedey and Jean-Claude Gobé, leader of the official opposition of the City of Laval were among the distinguished guest who honoured the event with their presence. Reverend Father Zisis Derekas blessed the festival and Theodora Papadopoulou represented the General Consul of Greece in Montreal. HCGM President, Nicolas Pagonis, was present, accompanied by many members of the BOD. Dennis Marinos along with the Laval Regional Council members was the host of the event, which was once again a great success.

A five-piece orchestra composed of Elias Canaras, Petros Plarinos, Pavlos Lepeniotis, Kosmas Koklas and Jojo Tckakian along with singers Pavlos Laskaris, Eva Grekousi, Artemis Lagopoulos, Andreas Karabatsos, performed and roused the audience with songs from all regions of Greece.

Dances, songs, good cheers and wishes, and, of course, nostalgia for the homeland spread into the air, creating a magical ambiance which will remain in our hearts forever, or at least until next year’s event.

The HCGM and the Laval Regional Council thank all donors and sponsors for their support. We are grateful to all the volunteers for their tireless work and dedication, and to each and every one of you for supporting this event and make it a great success.
